We’ll be staying at Jandía, a resort at the southern tip of the island near the small picturesque fishing village of Morro Jable, which features the best beach on Fuerteventura, if not the Canaries – wide and sandy stretching for over 20 miles against a stunning backdrop of vast mountains and blue skies. With crystal clear seas and benefiting from refreshing Atlantic breezes, this is a splendid place for sun-seekers and water sports enthusiasts and known as the Canaries’ beach and water sports paradise.

Situated directly on Jandía’s fine sandy beach, our family friendly 4-star hotel Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace, winner of the HolidayCheck 2015 Award is set out in a triangle around a spacious pool landscape facing the beach. The hotel is great for families with teenagers as there is a teenage club at the hotel that offers a great sports programme including table tennis, archery, darts, beach volleyball, air rifle shooting and water sports whilst the mini and maxi club keeps our single parents’ younger children entertained.

Rooms feature an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, telephone, satellite TV, fridge, safe, hair dryer and private balcony or terrace.

Our hotel has a mini club (4-8 years), maxi club (9-12 years) and teenage club (13-17 years). The mini and maxi clubs offer a varied programme of organized play, kids’ shows and games suitable to the different age groups, while the teenage club boasts a great sports and entertainment programme including beach volleyball, water sports, pool games, music and much more.

For those wishing to keep up their exercise regime during their holiday, there is a gym and squash courts at the hotel. In addition, if you enjoy a bit of pampering, why not visit the state of the art Thai Zen Spa in the Fuerteventura Palace’s sister hotel next door with saunas, Jacuzzi, steam room, massages and beauty treatments. The hotel also has a diving centre and is close to a golf course with favourable rates for all hotel guests.

In the evenings, our single parent families can dine together as a group in the hotel restaurant and chill out in the bar afterwards, whilst their kids enjoy each other’s company allowing their parents to relax. The hotel offers an entertainment programme in the evenings that will include daily shows, concerts and discos for the children.

Excursions:

Even though holidays to Jandía in Fuerteventura are mainly focused on beach activities and water sports, there is still a lot to keep you entertained. Jandía offers an array of tax-free shops and the resort has quite a few lively bars to keep you busy when the sun goes down. And for daytime excursions, you could visit the Jandía National Park or one of the many Aloe Vera Farms. We also recommend a trip on a pirate ship, catamaran or speed boat to see dolphins and sea turtles, a jeep tour on the sandy dunes of Jandía or a quad bike (only with driving licence) or Segway tour of the surrounding area.

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, only 60 miles from the coast of Morocco. It is a volcanic island and famous for its enormous sand dunes, endless sandy beaches and perfect conditions for a wide variety of water sports, such as surfing, wind surfing and catamaran sailing. Apart from some of the most impressive beaches in Europe, Fuerteventura enjoys a sunny dry climate all year round with a maximum temperature of 27°C in late May/early June– making it a perfect May half-term holiday destination for our single parents.

Jandía is the name given to the peninsula on the south western end of Fuerteventura. At one time Jandía was actually an island off Fuerteventura but huge sand deposits eventually linked the two landmasses resulting in one of the longest, and some would say the best beaches in the world. The main resort of Jandía with its bars and shops is just up the road and great for an evening stroll.

"Thank you for such an enjoyable holiday. We felt the whole experience was a positive one. The holiday would not have been as pleasant and relaxing without your input."
- Patricia, Jordan (18) & Reuben (11) (Fuerteventura, August 2014)

"This was my first time on a single parent holiday, so it was with some trepidation that I approached the holiday. I needn’t have worried. Within 2 hours of arriving my daughter had bonded with the other children. She had a wonderful time, which meant I could then relax and enjoy myself. It was a great group of people and we all got on well. Sometimes we would do things together, at other times people would do their own thing. The rep was superb and did a great job ensuring everyone was having a good time. We also hired bicycles and had a parents v kids football match (a very diplomatic draw ). I would definitely recommend the holiday."
- Phil & Celine (12) (Fuerteventura, August 2013)

"Our holiday on Fuerteventura was really great because of how un commercialised it is as an island and because of the fabulous beaches. It was a little hideaway that we came to love. The group was such fun and our guide became a part of our fun."
- Laura & Daniel (10) (Fuerteventura, August 2013)

"The hotel was in an excellent location, and provided consistently good food and quality facilities. The range of inclusive snacks and drinks was excellent; and Sandra’s organisation and attentiveness was, as always, first rate."
- Paul, Alice (13) & Daisy (11) (Fuerteventura, August 2012)

"Once again we have all enjoyed a superb holiday with SPOH (our 4th) – Sandra is the perfect host and makes everyone feel welcome and included – takes the strain (organisation wise) off the single parents and is great company. Fantastic hotel and location with a range of activities to suit all – highly recommended."
- Jenny, Adam (16) & Sam (14) (Fuerteventura, August 2012)

"Brilliantly organised holiday – great hotel, lovely location and great people. All inclusive was an added bonus. Was lovely to be able to enjoy adult company whenever you wanted especially evenings and the kids all enjoyed having the built in friends to play with. All in all a really relaxing holiday. Would definitely recommend."
