Yet, they sometimes bring more kids’ screen time and more gadgets on the go. Airports, hotels, cafés, and rental homes – it’s a new network at every stop. Public Wi-Fi can be slow, crowded, and risky and a single parent with a million things to do can’t monitor every click, every step of the way.

Your Mac has your travel plans, photos, and payments. Your children’s iPads and phones have their school logins and chats. You rush one tap on a fake hotspot, one shady download, and your long awaited single parent holidays can go sideways. Here are a few steps that marshal your data to retain its privacy and keep those kids focused on fun while safe online. In this guide, you’ll find:

easy Mac tweaks to boost protection

safer ways to connect abroad

clear rules for kids that still feel fair

tips for sharing holiday memories without sharing your location

Don’t Take Security Shortcuts While Travelling

Downloading third-party tools while on vacation or travelling, such as free photo editors or mapping software, is one of the easiest ways your Mac may be compromised. The most common way to acquire malware on your computer is through pirated software and altered apps that, unbeknownst to you, contain malicious payloads that steal passwords or delete files. Rather than just installing whatever you find on your trip, help keep your kids safe online by taking a quick read to understand just how big a risk pirated software can be. Moonlock is a great Mac-oriented cybersecurity blog that offers hands-on advice. A single dodgy download could expose my payment details and cloud logins (because pretty much everything now requires you to log in to it).

Legitimate applications are updated with new security updates that protect the device, whereas malicious ones are not. That’s the difference that will matter, unfortunately, when navigating crowded networks where hackers are most active.

Protect Kids with Smart Online Rules

To keep kids safe online, it’s essential to establish clear ground rules. While it’s tempting to let them do their own thing and base protection on basics such as passwords and choosing the right network, you should also integrate slightly more advanced steps.

Create Child Accounts & Screen Time Controls

Family travel often means moments filled with movies, games, and messaging, so it’s best to set clear boundaries before taking off. Creating separate child accounts on an Apple device is just another way to regain proper control over what your children can access while using your MacBook in a hotel room or on a train journey. Minor adjustments can make a huge difference:

set app and browser time limits

use content filters to block adult or otherwise harmful pages

disable in-app purchases or turn off purchasing without your passcode to avoid unwitting buys

Allowing kids access within appropriate boundaries keeps them within age-appropriate spaces, just right for their maturity and needs. These tools help them use digital time sensibly, and you can relax, knowing their browsing won’t drift into unsafe areas.

Talk About Online Safety

Before you set out, take a moment to review internet safety with your child. Children don’t require a full-fledged lecture on technology, but general caution. Inform them not to share their complete name, the full name of their school, or their location with strangers. While on vacation, kids may want to post fun status updates, but oversharing can give away too much personal information.

It’s pretty easy for strangers to find out where your family is on social platforms, so that’s why you need to be careful. Tell them to keep their accounts private, only accept friend requests from people they know, and ask permission before putting up pictures of them. These are congenial habits that ensure security with freedom.

Safely Connect Abroad

The best online safety tips revolve around knowing how exactly to connect abroad. It’s incredibly tempting to latch onto any free network, but that comes with vast risks.

Use Trusted Wi-Fi

When you’re on one of your single parent holidays and the world is at your fingertips, it’s easy for you to want to hop onto the “Free Hotel Wi-Fi” to catch up on emails or allow the kids to stream cartoons. The problem is that cybercriminals find public Wi-Fi networks, especially in airports, cafes, or guesthouses, to be easy targets. This is because they generally do not come equipped with encryption or robust security, leaving your data highly exposed and vulnerable to “man-in-the-middle” fake or “evil twin” hotspots, as well as malware attacks.

Disable Auto-Join

Internet safety for kids requires you to take a few steps. One of the very basic and easily ignored features in Macs or iPads is ‘’Auto-Join” for Wi-Fi networks. If turned on, your device can connect to networks it recognises or that sound familiar. Many security guides recommend turning off the auto-connect feature on open/public networks to protect your data.

Before you travel, go into your Wi-Fi settings and remove known networks you no longer use. Turn on “Ask to join networks” or turn off “Auto-Join”. This keeps your Mac from wandering into unsafe networks and helps you stay in control.

Turn Off Bluetooth When Not Needed

Protect your kids online by turning off Bluetooth whenever you don’t need it. Bluetooth is great for sharing files and devices such as headphones, but it can also unlock doors for exploiters. Attackers can use Bluetooth weaknesses or use it as a means of gaining access to your device from an insecure network or location. This certainly ranks below Wi-Fi issues in terms of incidence, but turning off Bluetooth when it is not in use is still considered a wise precaution. This is particularly so when in the vicinity of airports, taxis, and other public transport hubs.

Turn off Bluetooth when not in use. This will minimise exposure and keep your Mac and other family devices from unknown devices in the vicinity. Together with cautious Wi-Fi use and unselected auto-join preferences, this is a far healthier baseline of security for you on the road.

Conclusion

Family vacations are about making memories, not worrying about cyber threats. If you instil good habits in your kids, such as the use of trusted Wi-Fi and staying away from dodgy downloads, set up child accounts and conversation, you will have your Mac and your kids’ privacy in your pocket wherever you wander.

These digital safety tips for kids help build confidence and awareness, allowing them to explore and learn the world without undue risk. With strategic preparations and well-guided plans, you can keep your kids safe online when travelling, enjoy your stay, maintain connections, and return home with only good stories to share.

Acquiring this skill is essential for a child’s reading success. Kids don’t need to follow cues or pictures to guess the words. Instead, they employ decoding strategies to read each letter and word from left to right.

Whether you are a parent or teacher, allowing your student to practise their reading using phonic based books with decodable texts will help them understand letter-sound relationships to read unfamiliar words. This specific practice builds their reading reflex and makes them successful, independent readers as well. Read on to find out why decodable texts should form an essential part of your child’s reading journey.

Why you should use decodable books

Decodable texts give first-level phonics readers the opportunity to use their phonics skills to read stories with words that primarily consist of letter-sound patterns. They can do this by following simple word structures, vowel-consonant and consonant-vowel-consonant, before moving to complex ones. However, teachers and parents must recognise that not all learners have the same ability. Some children may grasp the sequences early on, while others may need more time to become fluent. This is why it is essential to establish the alphabetic principle in children. This knowledge will enable them to apply their phonics knowledge to decode even unfamiliar words.

Books with decodable texts help children gain confidence in their reading skills. Authors are often able to eliminate or at least minimise high-frequency words and grapheme-phoneme correspondences in their material to ensure children use their phonics skills when learning to read. You will find that there are also many sequential books on the market, which are an excellent way to develop children’s phonics knowledge step by step by introducing grapheme and phoneme concepts gradually and keeping young readers engaged.

Decodable texts v. predictable texts

First of all, you need to understand the basics of developing a child’s reading skills when looking for beginner reading materials. Some educators may recommend introducing early learners to repetitive or predictable texts that are based on the cueing system approach to reading, whilst others favour books with decodable texts. Experts, however, believe predictable materials may not work with at-risk or weak readers. They believe that such books encourage readers to use contextual guessing to understand the words on a page, some of which can be complex and may contain unfamiliar grapheme–phoneme correspondences.

On the contrary, decodable texts guide learners through single letters and their corresponding sounds. For example, consider the word ‘bat’ and its single-letter grapheme–phoneme correspondences: b-a-t. Predictable texts, on the other hand, often focus on complex digraphs such as ‘ck,’ ‘wh,’ and others.

Nevertheless, it is important to know that some words in both types of texts can be difficult for early readers to decode. Examples include words like the, was, and said. However, decodable books contain fewer of these words so that kids don’t rely on guessing strategies.

How to select decodable texts

When it comes to teaching your children or students grapheme-phoneme correspondences through decodable books, you must ensure that the instructions in the series are clear and satisfy your teaching goals. The book should be comprehensive about the use of grapheme-phoneme correspondences (GPC). Texts should include proper punctuation marks and grammar. Initial texts can have one sentence per page to make it easier for learners to absorb the material. If you buy your books from a trusted provider, you will not have to worry about these factors, though.

Finally

Sowing the seeds of independent reading from the beginning should be the goal of any successful literacy programme. Decodable texts are the first step on a child’s journey to becoming a strong, independent reader. Of course, some learners will progress faster than others, so whether you are a teacher, childminder, or parent, you must get to know and recognise your learner’s ability and plan their exposure to these instructions accordingly.

Early reading skills are particularly important and form the foundation of their academic journey. But how do educators teach children to read at such an early age, and how can parents help them? Whether you are a nursery schoolteacher, a parent, or a single parent with little time on their hands, if you want to support your kindergarten students with a literacy programme, you need to understand reading skills basics, starting with phonemes, phonics, and sight words:

Phonemic Awareness

A journey to becoming a confident reader starts with phonemic awareness: When planning reading for kindergarten, you can include activities that help students hear, recognize, and use different sounds in spoken words. Individual sounds are nothing but phonemes. If you take a word, such as ‘cat’ or ‘dog,’ each contains three phonemes: ‘c’, ‘a’, ‘t’, and ‘d’, ‘o’, ‘g’, respectively. As soon as kids become familiar with these elements, they can easily learn new words.

Creating phonemic awareness in young children is also essential to help them become good listeners. As their grasp of phonemes increases, their phonemic awareness skills become strengthened. When they learn to combine this knowledge with phonics, it further enhances their vocabulary.

Phonics Skills

School curricula now place more emphasis on the need for young children to learn phonics. After all, the benefits of reading simply cannot be emphasized enough. In the US, the Science of Reading has been the driving force behind the research into the best teaching methods to help children become successful readers, and phonemic awareness and phonics are two of the “5 big ideas” they believe teaching early reading skills should be based on. Interestingly, the development of phonemic awareness and phonics skills is interlinked.

Phonics is a teaching system that explains how written letters represent the sounds in spoken words. The sounds in a word are called phonemes, and the written letters that represent them are called graphemes. During the initial stages of learning to read, children often have difficulty improving their phonics skills. If you don’t engage them in this, they won’t be able to read printed words.

To be precise, phonics instruction is essential for early readers as it helps them decode even unknown words. It also enables them to blend words. The more they practise this, the better they become at this skill. To support them, you can use decodable texts and books. Give them materials that include familiar phonics patterns.

Sight Words

These are among the first words that nursery school kids need to grasp and recall automatically. They are nothing else but high-frequency words that children should remember instantly “by sight”. Examples include ‘but’, ‘the’, and ‘is’. Children often face difficulty during this learning phase of reading because such words tend to be phonetically irregular. After all, letters can have different sounds in the English language. As a result, some children may not be able to read or spell them correctly straight away. One way of teaching sight words is to read simple books where these can be learnt through the context in the story.

The Importance of Developing Children’s Reading Skills

Your child’s reading skills lay the foundation for their success in all areas of their life. For single parents it’s often particularly hard to find the time and energy to read with their children after a long day at work. But every minute spent reading together aloud, playing sound and letter games, or helping your children improve their reading skills in other ways is time well spent. Encouraging a love of reading and books can become a wonderful shared lifelong passion.

When children read well, their writing skills improve, they become confident in the way they express themselves, and they are able to tackle other problems with faith in their ability. Reading opens doors as it unlocks access to information and knowledge, enables children to learn and think independently, and, of course, communicate with others. In fact, research shows that reading a lot at a young age, whether for pleasure or study, means higher grades, better social skills, and happy and confident children.

Hence, it’s crucial for teachers and parents to use the right materials and resources to teach reading skills as early as nursery school. By exposing children to phonemes, phonics, and sight words through fun activities, lessons, and games in their early years, they prepare them for a bright future.

Alongside emotional changes, there are practical matters that require attention. Legal clarity can make this transition smoother. Knowing your rights helps you make informed decisions for your children and finances.

This guide offers clear and realistic legal guidance for single parents. The focus is on plain advice, not legal jargon. With the right information, it’s easier to understand your position and move forward.

Getting Your Legal Bearings Early

Waiting for problems to arise before dealing with legal issues often leads to stress. Looking at arrangements early puts you in a stronger position. There are many areas that need attention, such as where everyone will live, how assets are divided, how joint accounts are managed, who pays for what, and how decisions about children will be made.

It helps to make a clear list of what still needs resolving. If you are unable to agree on anything or just certain aspects, mediation might be useful. It offers a practical way to settle issues without going through court. Mediators don’t take sides and can help both parties to reach an agreement without the need for a costly solicitor.

Whether or not you have reached an informal agreement, having those terms reviewed by a solicitor will give you legal clarity and reassurance. A solicitor can offer legal advice on what’s reasonable and draft any resulting agreements so they are fit for purpose, support your interests and protect your children’s future. They will also point out implications beyond the obvious that you might have missed, such as the impact on pension, inheritance, or tax.

Child Arrangements That Work for Everyone

Sorting out your child’s living arrangements, including how time is shared between parents, is often difficult. The law focuses on the child’s wellbeing and long-term stability. Consistency and ongoing access to both parents are usually seen as important, provided there are no safety concerns.

You’ll need to think through weekly routines, school schedules, holidays, and special occasions. Having an agreement in writing reduces confusion and creates a shared understanding of where the children will stay during the week and during the school holidays. This might need to include allowing you to take your children abroad so you can book a holiday for single parents without any hassle. The arrangement can be informal to begin with, but it should be reviewed regularly.

If relations are civil, a signed parenting agreement might be enough. Even then, it’s advisable to get legal advice before finalising anything. Solicitors can spot problems you might miss and ensure the plan is practical.

When communication has broken down or there are concerns about a child’s welfare, a more formal approach is often needed. Applying for a Child Arrangements Order through the family court can establish a clear, enforceable plan. This covers where the child will live, how time is shared, and other details. A solicitor will guide you through the application process and help present your position clearly and calmly.

Sorting Shared Finances Without Drama

Dividing finances after a split involves more than just bank accounts. You’ll need to address property ownership, debts, pensions, savings, and any future financial obligations. Even when things feel amicable, problems can arise without written agreements.

Start by gathering all your financial records. This includes bank statements, mortgage information, childcare costs, and details of any loans or shared assets. A solicitor will help you understand your financial rights and how to structure a settlement fairly.

Once an agreement is reached, many people apply for a Consent Order. This makes the arrangement legally binding and prevents further claims. While it’s possible to draft terms yourself, a solicitor ensures they are legally sound and acceptable to the court.

Child maintenance is another part of the discussion. Payments are usually based on income and the time children spend with each parent. Agreements can be made directly or calculated through the Child Maintenance Service. Sorting this early reduces the chance of future conflict.

Life changes quickly. Income, location, or new responsibilities can affect existing agreements. A solicitor can advise on how to update arrangements when needed, without making things more difficult.

When Legal Advice Becomes Necessary

There are moments when legal support moves from being useful to essential. If you’re facing hostility, safety concerns, or confusion about your rights, speaking to a solicitor can protect you from further difficulty. This is also important when making decisions about your children, negotiating finances, or trying to finalise any written agreements.

You don’t need to go through a court process to get help. Many family solicitors offer one-off consultations at a fixed price. For example, Stowe Family Law has family lawyers UK wide offering guidance based on your personal situation. They provide support with everything from parenting plans to financial agreements, always focusing on clear and practical solutions.

Legal advice removes uncertainty. You won’t have to guess whether an agreement is fair or wonder what your responsibilities are. A solicitor gives you accurate guidance based on experience and current law. This saves time, reduces emotional stress, and allows you to focus on what matters most.

It’s important to find someone who listens carefully and explains things in plain terms. Legal qualifications matter but so does feeling understood and supported.

What to Expect When You Speak to a Family Lawyer

If you’ve never spoken to a solicitor before, it might feel unfamiliar. The first meeting is usually straightforward. You’ll be asked about your current situation and what outcomes you hope to achieve. Whether you’re focused on your children, your finances, or your living arrangements, this is your opportunity to ask questions.

You don’t need to have every document ready, but bringing anything relevant, such as financial records or past agreements, can help make the conversation more productive.

Solicitors work in different ways. Some offer complete support through every stage, while others provide guidance for those managing parts of the process themselves. Be clear on what you want and ask how fees work so there are no surprises.

Staying Grounded While Managing Legal Issues

Sorting legal matters takes time, energy, and focus, all while you continue parenting. Some simple tools can ease the pressure. A shared calendar, for example, helps track routines, handovers, and school events. Keeping notes from key conversations, especially during conflict, gives you a record that can be useful later.

Support from others is important too. Whether you rely on close friends, peer groups, or professionals, having someone to talk to is crucial to help you survive as a newly single parent. Legal matters can feel isolating, but you’re not expected to handle everything alone.

Work at your own pace. Taking small actions, like reviewing a document or making one call, still moves things forward. Staying steady helps you stay present for your children and look ahead with more confidence.

Moving Forward with Confidence

Each step you take builds a more stable future for your family. Even when it feels tiring or unfamiliar, seeking legal advice and setting things out clearly protects you and the future of your children. If you feel overwhelmed, slow down, ask questions, and choose solutions that make sense for your personal situation. There’s no single right way to handle this stage. What works for one family might not suit another. Focus on honest information, legal clarity, and thoughtful decisions. With the right support, this chapter can feel more manageable, and your next one can begin with greater peace of mind.

For single parents, especially, offering driving lessons to their teenage children is not just a practical step — it’s an opportunity to strengthen their bond, instil values, and create lasting memories. Keep reading to find out how parent-led driving lessons contribute to personal growth, teach responsibility, and bring families closer together.

Key Benefits of Parent-Led Driving Lessons

Needless to say, teaching your child to drive can save you a lot of money. That aside, there are many other benefits to parent-led driving lessons aside from the obvious saving:

Turning Driving Lessons into a Bonding Opportunity

When a parent teaches their child to drive, they are not merely sharing the rules of the road — they are modelling trust, patience, and support. Formal driving lessons focus solely on skill-building, whilst a parent-child lesson creates a space where youngsters can ask questions and make mistakes without feeling embarrassed. They can learn at their own pace on familiar roads without the pressure of a formal driving lesson.

For single parents, this activity offers a unique opportunity to spend quality one-on-one time in an uninterrupted setting. In a busy world where we are all preoccupied with work, school, and domestic responsibilities and where teenagers have little time for their parents, a drive around town can turn into a much-needed opportunity to connect and have meaningful conversations with your youngster.

Building Responsibility Behind the Wheel

One of the greatest lessons that comes from learning to drive is understanding responsibility. From checking mirrors and blind spots to managing speed and understanding traffic laws, young drivers need to understand that they are now accountable for their own safety, that of their passengers, and that of others on the road.

When a parent guides that lesson, it becomes so much more meaningful. The young learner witnesses responsibility in action, from watching their parent calmly navigating rush-hour traffic to explaining why they always double-check their rear-view mirror before changing lanes. These habits, formed early, will stay with a young driver for life.

And it goes beyond just road safety. When a parent trusts their child enough to hand over their car keys, they signal faith and confidence in their child’s growing maturity. This can be incredibly motivating, encouraging teens to rise to the occasion.

Strengthening the Parent-Child Relationship

Few activities offer as much one-on-one time as driving lessons. This consistent, direct interaction opens the door to meaningful discussions. Whether you’re talking through parallel parking or sharing stories from your own first driving experiences, you’re also reinforcing a foundation of trust and communication.

As single parents, we often have to juggle multiple roles, so this time together is invaluable. The time you spend with your teen in the car will not only help them gain essential life skills; it also provides a platform to discuss goals, worries, dreams, or even just the events of the day. In a moving vehicle with no screens or distractions, many teens feel more at ease opening up.

Personalised Learning

If you are teaching your teenager to drive, you can tailor your lessons to your youngster’s pace and needs. Rather than suffering a dent in their confidence and wallet, your teenager can learn at a slower pace without having to worry about their friends, instructor, or parents counting the number of hours it takes to reach a level that might allow them to take a driving test.

Teaching Technical Knowledge

Knowing some technical details about your car is not only essential for passing a driving test but also for long-term vehicle safety and awareness. Teens should be taught how to check tyre pressure, monitor oil levels, and recognise dashboard warning lights, so make sure you make technical knowledge of your driving lessons.

Lighting is another area of concern. We spoke to Onlinecarparts.co.uk who stressed that headlights are essential for safety, especially in adverse weather or low-light conditions. Make sure your teen knows how to use full beams, when to switch on fog lights, and how to spot if a bulb has gone out.

Also worth discussing are brakes, windscreen wipers, and the importance of regular servicing. Not only do these aspects contribute to safe driving, but they also help young drivers understand that car ownership comes with responsibilities beyond simply driving.

Statistics: The Impact of Parent-Led Driving

Research supports the idea that young drivers benefit from parent involvement. The RAC Foundation found that young drivers who received substantial parental instruction had significantly lower accident rates within the first six months of driving compared to those who learned only through a driving school. Specifically, drivers taught by their parents had:

a 20% lower crash risk in the first year

40+ hours lessons before receiving their driving license

65% more confidence in their driving on test day

73% of families said shared driving practice helped them bond

Tips for Parents Looking to Teach Their Kids:

1. Can I teach my child to drive? Check the gov.uk website to make sure you are legally allowed to teach your child to drive. If you live in the UK, you currently need to be over the age of 21, qualified for the vehicle you want to teach in, and have held a full driving license from the UK or EU for the past 3 years.

2. Provisional license: The young driver must have applied for and hold a provisional driving license.

3. Contact your car insurance: The holder of the provisional license must be covered by your car insurance policy, so make sure to have this amended before you start giving your child driving lessons.

4. Start slow: Begin in empty car parks or quiet neighbourhoods that your teenager is familiar with.

5. Be patient: Mistakes are part of the learning process. Keep calm.

6. Set goals: Use each lesson to focus on one skill, such as roundabouts or reverse parking. Don’t become overambitious or you will risk overwhelming your young driver.

7. Give praise: Celebrate small victories to build your teen’s confidence.

8. Lead by example: Practice good driving habits even when you’re behind the wheel. NEVER display road rage when travelling with youngsters.

Final Thoughts: More Than a Driving Lesson

Teaching your child to drive isn’t just a step toward independence — it’s a shared journey that can leave a lasting impact on both of you. It’s a chance to spend time together, foster trust, and instil values that extend beyond the driver’s seat.

Parent-led driving lessons are not just about clutch control or mirror checks. They’re about showing up, being present, and guiding your child through one of life’s biggest transitions. For single parents especially, they offer a moment to connect, laugh, teach, and grow — all while navigating the open road together.

UK cities attract migrants for a variety of reasons, including job opportunities, free healthcare, and great schooling. Of course, uprooting your kids is not a decision to be taken lightly, especially if you are a single parent and rely on a support system of family and friends. It takes some careful planning to ensure you are moving to a place that works for both you and your children. To help you figure out where to live in the UK with kids, here are the best cities for families in Britain, with a little advice as a bonus:

Best Cities for Families in the UK

The country has countless wonderful cities full of character and charm, offering a good work life balance and excellent educational opportunities for children of all ages. Let’s start with a well-known city in the north of England:

Manchester

Starting strong with Manchester, or quite possibly Greater Manchester (if you are happy to move to the outskirts to save a few £££), which is widely known as the ‘capital of the North’ or ‘mini London’. It’s an excellent place to live for a variety of reasons:

There are plenty of small towns and villages around Manchester that offer reasonably priced housing, such as Middleton, Atherton, Worsley, Eccles, Sale, and so forth, with a median property price of £220k. While there are, of course, more expensive areas in and around Manchester, you can most definitely find a home within your budget. Nothing is more than a 20-30 minute drive away in Manchester, so while Manchester may feel big, it is extremely convenient in the sense that you can live in an area that feels rural and kid-friendly but are never too far from anywhere, with both a vibrant city centre and the beautiful Peak District on your doorstep.

Photo: Manchester University

Manchester is a very diverse and vibrant city, home to outstanding universities and colleges, a thriving art and music scene, famous sports grounds, and a multicultural population. With all that in mind, make sure you check that the area you wish to move to has a low crime rate and good infrastructure. This can be particularly important to single parents who might rely on safe public transport for work, school, etc.

Liverpool

The Liverpudlians are known for being super friendly and welcoming. I would even say that Liverpool is more friendly than Manchester as ‘Scousers’ are known to look after their own. While this city in England has its not-so-pretty spots in the city centre, there are some absolute darling villages and spots to live in with kids, such as Bootle, Sefton, Otterspool, and even the Wirral just over the water.

In addition, Liverpool has no less than 130 parks and playgrounds dotted throughout the city, along with acres of lovely green spaces. Take Sefton Park, which is also great for a day out with kids and the family dog. There are also around 143 recreational facilities to be found here.

Photo: The Beatles monument at the Pier Head in Liverpool

According to Rentaroof, the average monthly rent in Liverpool is £891, which is quite affordable compared to other cities in the UK. If you are looking to buy, the average house price was approx. £180k in March 2025. This is a very competitive rate in the current climate.

Newcastle Upon Tyne

Newcastle is yet another friendly northern city with an incredible accent and slang that is contagious. Often appearing on lists of the best cities for families in the UK, this kid-friendly place is a great starting point if you are looking to relocate. As may be expected, wages here are relatively low at £33,000 per annum, but this is matched with very much affordable house prices averaging at a stable £147,600 – a bargain compared to Manchester and the south of England.

One of the best parts of living in Newcastle with kids is that it’s considered safe, has good schools and universities, and offers plenty of things to do for families. The city centre itself is walkable and safe and has an array of cultural attractions. Regarding areas to live in with kids, check out Sandyford, Fenham, and leafy Jesmond, all of which are becoming increasingly popular with young families.

Aberdeen

Moving even further north to Scotland, Aberdeen has made a few appearances as one of the top 10 cities for families in the UK. Located on the breathtaking northeast coast of Scotland, this vibrant city is brimming with culture, history, and personality. At the same time, the surrounding mountains make it a great place to live for active and outdoorsy families with a sense of adventure and love of walking. This city really gives families the best of both worlds.

Like Newcastle, this unlikely candidate is where to live in the UK with kids if you are looking for a city with a low crime rate, top schools and colleges, and a close-knit community feel. Aberdeen also has the lowest property price-to-income ratio on our list so far, so you won’t have to pay more to take advantage of everything the city has to offer. While average incomes are much higher at £40,325 than in other cities across the UK, average house prices have stabilised at about £142,300, which is amazing.

Another great city to live in with kids is Sheffield, on the east side of the Peak District. Find out what it’s like to bring up children in Sheffield.

Photo: Balmedie Beach, south of the city of Aberdeen

Legal Considerations

There is quite a lot to consider when moving abroad. First of all, you need to decide if you are going to stay temporarily or permanently. This will influence many decisions, for example, whether you move your belongings or put them into storage, rent or buy, etc. Here are some of the things you should take into consideration:

Immigration

If you currently don’t hold British citizenship and are seriously considering relocating to a city in the UK with your children, you need to find out how to obtain a permit to live and work. Depending on your country of origin, this process may be more or less difficult. It depends on your country of origin and your personal circumstances. Whilst some Commonwealth citizens may have a right to abode, others do not. EU citizens, for example, lost their right to live and work in the UK following Brexit. They now need a visa.

Emigrating to the UK, especially in 2025, is likely to pose a few challenges, but it can be done. To smooth the process, immigration solicitors can advise on the process in your specific situation and will be able to help you apply for British citizenship when the time comes. Be sure to start the legal process early, as visas and work permits can take some time to be processed and approved.

Finding a Home

As of today, there are no restrictions on renting or buying a home in the UK if you aren’t a British citizen, so that’s great news. There are very few exceptions, such as the Channel Islands. However, ensure you keep up to date in case of any policy changes.

Taxes

One of the first things you need to find out is how much you will earn after taxes. The best place to get informed is the government’s HMRC website. Moving to the UK doesn’t necessarily mean that your home country won’t expect you to pay taxes. It’s therefore wise to check if you still have tax liabilities in your home country. You might need to see a financial advisor with experience in this field.

Photo: Newcastle upon Tyne

Conclusion

Whether you are a single parent looking to relocate from another part of the UK, a family wishing to immigrate, or a parent wanting to settle down after a period of nomadic parenting, we hope our introduction to some of the best cities for families has given you an idea of where to live in the UK with kids, what life in Britain is like, and – most of all -whether it’s for you!

If you haven’t booked your family holidays yet and have a video game-obsessed youngster, why not enrol them in a coding camp over the summer? These educational camps don’t just teach valuable coding skills, they let your kid get creative and explore a completely different side of gaming. Summer camps provide a fun, interactive environment for kids to develop their tech skills and gain experience in game development and programming while they are off school. This guide offers a sneak peek into what your kids will learn when you sign them up for a holiday camp.

Reasons to Book a Coding Camp for Kids

A coding camp for kids is more than just a passing thought to get through the summer break. It introduces kids to programming in a fun, engaging, and interactive way while developing valuable tech skills, problem solving skills, and their ability to work in a team. Here are some of the reasons you could consider booking your youngster into a summer coding camp:

1. Design & Coding Skills

One of the main goals of these camps is to develop coding skills that your children can use at school and work in the future. When camp ends, kids will be able to understand and apply programming concepts independently in real-world scenarios. They will learn the following:

Programming languages: Kids will learn and use popular programming languages to create their codes, interactive stories, and video games at their own pace as they work online from the comfort of their home. Block-based coding programs, like Scratch, are also ideal for starting to learn programming.

Computational thinking: Coding camps teach your kids to break down big problems and ideas into smaller tasks to solve each problem.

Game development: Kids will understand the development process of creating games and will learn the science of automating tasks within their own game.

2. Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills

Two key aspects of coding are developing critical and problem-solving abilities. These soft skills are essential not just in programming but also in daily life. Here is what they might learn:

Problem solving skills: Kids will learn to produce multiple solutions to a single problem. They’ll try to see if one solution works before moving on to the next until they get it right.

Critical thinking: Children will decide how to structure their code, solve every challenge, and optimise their projects to the fullest.

Programming robots: Some holiday camps offer robotics classes that teach kids to give instructions to machines and see how they respond in real time.

3. Project-Based Learning

An effective way to learn programming is by doing it. That’s why project-based learning is an important component of coding camps. Kids will have built their portfolio of completed projects at the end of the camp. These tech skills will then be applied to real-world scenarios and large-scale work in the future, giving your child enough confidence to solve every problem.

4. Socialising and Making New Friends

Holiday camps shouldn’t just be about learning – your kids should have fun and make friends during their time off school. Online camps are collaborative since kids work together, share ideas, and help one another through various challenges.

Communication skills: Your kid learns to communicate with other kids when their team works on coding problems.

Meeting new people: Children meet other kids online who have the same interests and passions as them.

Fun and supportive environment: Camps give kids the opportunity to try new things without being shamed for making mistakes. They encourage children to experiment with their ideas and see which works best.

5. Competent Instructors

Good coding camps hire instructors with extensive backgrounds in coding and programming. These professionals can teach your kids everything they need to know about programming and coding. They can help your kids troubleshoot any coding problem and guide them through every lesson.

6. Flexible Schedules

Some holiday camps run at certain times of the day, Monday to Friday, whilst others require your child to be online for a few hours a day but not at set times. The upside of online coding camps for kids v. in-person classes is that it might suit busy families better as children can attend classes at their leisure without them impacting on their family’s schedule. If that is your preference, look for flexible online classes. Alternatively, you could also book your children into after-school classes if you are too busy travelling in the holidays.

7. Having Fun

As they get older, finding new ideas for kids to learn through play gets harder, especially if they become tech whizzes and their skills surpass your own! You might also not be happy with the amount of time your youngsters spend gaming, so why not channel that interest and direct it towards projects that pique their interest, such as game development? This will make them realise that coding is a fantastic way to express creativity and improve their problem solving skills. And there is simply no better way to make coding enjoyable for children than to learn with other kids.

Learning through games: Holiday camps typically teach coding through video games and game development. These hands on experiences are a great way to learn, especially for children who struggle to learn using books or listening to theory lessons at school.

Motivation through results: As kids create their own games, they will see the results of their work paying off, keeping them motivated to see the project through to the end.

Working with kids from different age groups: Coding camps can group children into pairs, trios, or even more to work on a project together. This boosts your child’s teamwork and social skills. It also means they can be confident sharing their ideas with other people.

Parting Words

Coding camps give kids a platform to hone their coding skills, help them channel their creativity, and increase their opportunities in the future. Whether they are programming robots or creating games, these camps teach them tech and life skills. They will learn transferable technical and soft skills that they can apply at school and later on in life and make new, possibly lifelong friends with the same interests in the process.

These kits offer a fun activity whilst simultaneously helping to reduce stress and anxiety in individuals of all ages. By using relaxing paint by number kits, families can unlock creativity without the pressure of producing perfect artwork. It’s also an excellent way of improving fine motor skills and instilling a sense of achievement in children as well as adults, including those who do not consider themselves particularly artistic. All families need to do is follow the numbered templates – and voilà, you can all experience the joy of creating something beautiful together while simultaneously reaping therapeutic benefits.

But that’s not all: If you and your children have some artistic skills already, painting by numbers can help develop them further. As you and your children progress through these kits, your confidence in art will grow and the step by step approach will foster a deeper appreciation for art and its positive impact on mental health.

This might become a family hobby, with the added benefit of providing stress relief and learning new skills. The kits come in all sizes, so you could even take them on your next single parent holiday with you. If you want to find out just how you and your children can benefit, read on:

The Therapeutic Aspects of Paint-by-Number Kits

One of the main benefits of painting by numbers is the calming effect on body and mind. Other benefits include stress reduction, enhanced focus, and overall mental well-being. These kits harness structured, creative activities to foster relaxation and improve mental health.

Fostering Relaxation and Stress Reduction

Engaging in a paint-by-number activity as a family can significantly reduce stress, something many single parents battle with. Painting within the lines, with its repetitive nature, is an activity parents can enjoy together with their children. Not only do you spend quality time together as a family, but you also get an opportunity to set aside stressors and anxieties by focusing on the task. The methodical process of paint-by-number kits encourages parents and children to enter a calm state. It is also understood to decrease cortisol levels, usually associated with stress.

Enhancing Focus and Mindfulness

The attention required to match colours to numbered sections keeps the mind engaged and present, thus enhancing focus and encouraging mindfulness. The immersion makes individuals lose track of time, thus offering a break from everyday problems and distractions. Many parents describe the activity as meditative.

For those who struggle with focus, for example due to age or a neurodiversity, paint-by-numbers kits can lead to improved cognitive function. Studies have indicated that concentrating on detailed tasks can boost memory and problem-solving skills in adults and children. This mindful engagement enhances their attention span and overall mental performance.

Supporting Mental Health and Well-being

Another important aspect of paint-by-number kits is their benefit for mental health. Completing an art project provides a sense of accomplishment and pride, boosting self-esteem and confidence. This success can be particularly empowering for those struggling with mental health issues or single parents who want to look after their mental health.

Painting by numbers also offers a creative outlet for expression. Art therapy uses this concept to facilitate emotional release and healing. For example, individuals battling anxiety may find that the combination of creativity and structure makes painting a great coping tool for their anxiety.

Artistic Elements and Skill Development

Did you know that calming paint-by-number kits offer not a structured and creative way to explore art? They help develop fine motor skills in children and adults, enhance focus, and teach various painting techniques.

Cultivating Creativity and Self-Expression

Following the numbered areas provided in kits encourages individuals to use colours uniquely, blending shades to create depth and detail. This process helps build confidence in their artistic abilities. If you thought, there is no room for artistic expression when you paint by numbers, you are wrong: These sets do allow for personal interpretation. While the outline is given, the choice of colours can be adjusted, allowing for personal touches and improvisation. This encourages a sense of ownership over the artwork – a wonderful way to boosts kids’ self-esteem as well as that of adults new to painting.

Improving Motor Skills and Concentration

It won’t come as a surprise to parents that working on paint-by-number projects can significantly enhance fine motor skills. Filling in small, numbered spaces requires careful brush control, precision, and patience. This repetitive motion strengthens hand-eye coordination and dexterity over time. To avoid frustration, you should buy age appropriate kits that young family members can also benefit from.

In addition, the focused attention needed to complete these kits is beneficial for concentration. Each section demands thorough observation and steady work, fostering an almost meditative state. This can be particularly helpful for those looking to improve patience and focus on single tasks without distraction.

Learning New Painting Techniques and Skills

Paint-by-number kits are a great way to help children learn through play. Young kids can improve focus and motor skills, whilst older children and adults learn about different painting techniques, including shading, blending, and layering colours – essential skills in more advanced art forms. This step-by-step approach makes these techniques less intimidating.

For families aiming to expand their skills, the kits can include different media, for example acrylic paints, thus gradually introducing budding artists to deeper artistic exploration.

Conclusion

Calming paint-by-number kits serve as an effective tool in art therapy through reducing stress and anxiety in both adults and children and offering much-needed- mindfulness. In addition, they instil a sense of accomplishment, boosting confidence and self-esteem. No doubt, they also make art more accessible to individuals who might feel intimidated by traditional painting.

But why is it that we need to reach a certain age to appreciate the beauty of the great outdoors? Studies have shown that you are not born with an affinity for nature, but that it develops gradually in life. This might explain why many children are hard to convince to join their parents on outings that involve nature walks and pretty flowers! If you are a single parent who wants to instil a love of nature in your kids, or someone who already shares that passion for flowers with their children, you will love our article about some of the best botanical gardens in the UK to visit with kids:

#1 Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Hampshire

Sir Harold Hillier Gardens near Romsey is a world-renowned park and arboretum best known for its outstanding plant collection and beautiful design. It’s one of the best botanical gardens in the UK to visit with kids, not only because of its comprehensive collection of plants and beautiful views, but because of the wide variety of gardens visitors can explore here. These include the Acer valley, the Centenary Border, the Winter Garden, the Gurkha Memorial Garden, and many more.

Kids will particularly enjoy the Boardwalk, the big treehouse, the “Hilltop Adventures” playground, the bog garden, the wobbly bridge, and the bog garden. Last but not least, there is the Children’s Education Garden, with its six dipping ponds filled with aquatic life and dragonflies, bird boxes with cameras, Chinese Spouting Bowl, musical Bamboo classroom, etc.

#2 Ness Botanic Garden, Cheshire

Ness Botanic Gardens, part of the University of Liverpool, spans 64 acres of land and offers stunning views of North Wales and the River Dee. With a wide range of plants and environments, including a rock garden, water garden, and Mediterranean garden, you can anticipate year-round colour and exceptional collections of rhododendrons, camellias, snowdrops, and Sorbus. If the weather is good, you may be able to witness the earliest spring blooms of azaleas and magnolias in Ness Botanic Gardens.

If you have pre-schoolers, you can book to join the Little Acorn sessions and enjoy educator led activities in the wonderful gardens with your kids. Alternatively, there is the Ness Explorers Kids Club for 7 to 10 year olds which is a drop off club on designated days. You can also join a Forest bathing experience or brush up your gardening skills here. If you love flowers, then a floral design workshop might interest you. Here you can learn how to make beautiful flower arrangements, such as flowers in a box.

#3 Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Birmingham Botanical Gardens is one of the best botanical gardens in the UK to visit with kids. The historic garden has over 7,000 plants, four Victorian glasshouses, a new butterfly house, and a Japanese Garden, which features the National Bonsai Collection amongst other plants. Expect to see spring-flowering cherries, such as Autumnalis Rosea, as well as the early flowering delicate pink blossoms of Prunus Hirtipes.

Needless to say, you will find a café, playground, and children’s trails here. The trails are themed, and you can choose between brilliant butterflies, dangerous plants, garden minibeasts, fabulous foods, magical plants, and plant record breaker trails. If those don’t entire your kids to join you on a tour of the gardens, then I don’t know what will! If you have little ones, it’s worth downloading the activity sheets that can be used as you walk around the gardens together.

Photo: Peacock at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

#4 Botanical Gardens at Royal Victoria Park, Bath

The nine-acre Botanical Gardens are one of the Royal Victoria Park’s most beautiful features. It is a wonderful springtime paradise, and guess what? It’s completely free. Take the kids through the pretty walkways, over little bridges, past small streams and onto a pond full of fish, sitting next to a cute moorhen house. There is also an aerial walkway here, providing stunning views across the area.

Once you have visited the botanical gardens, you can move on to find the park’s children’s play area, which includes, amongst others, a café, picnic tables, a bouncy castle, climbing wall, fort, swings combing net dome, sand play area with excavators, table tennis, and sometimes even a carousel. It’s the perfect place for single parents to relax whilst their kids are busy playing after a day out together. There are also tennis courts and a skateboard park here.

The ancestral home of the Brodie family has beautiful grounds, which are covered in more than 100 varieties of daffodils in spring and include a “Playful Garden”. The play area has a sensory outdoor space and can be accessed separately or as part of a combined ticket with the castle. The castle grounds also include a woodland adventure playground, a charming walled garden, a nature trail, a spot for wildlife observation, and a fascinating Pictish monument named the “Rodneys Stone”.

Go on an, pack a picnic, jump on the train, and visit some one of the many excellent botanical gardens or parks in the UK. If you want to make a day of it, choose a garden on the grounds of a noble mansion, such as Wrest Park in Bedfordshire, or one with fascinating greenhouses, like Kew Gardens in Richmond. Don’t forget to look at each botanical garden’s event page to check if there are any outdoor theatre shows, bands playing, or kids experiences scheduled. Pets have an innate way of catching not just children’s hearts but also those of adults. However, to turn that first spark of love into a lasting relationship, you must provide more than just love. Understanding the ABCs of pet education and care is the key to the transition from furballs to family members. Let’s look at why learning about pets is necessary before welcoming them home.

A Bumpy Yet Rewarding Journey

Have you and your children ever felt enchanted by the spell of adorable puppies? Despite this initial appeal, pet ownership can be full of bumps. This journey is not just about feeding and playing activities – it is about understanding their demands, behaviour, and communication.

Like little humans, pets grow and change, and their bond with their owners deepens. Educated pet parents can ensure that this transformation remains smooth and enriching, turning fleeting moments of cuteness into a lifetime of companionship.

Why Pet Education Matters

Knowing the basics of pet care is not solely a benefit to the animals but to everyone who comes into contact with them. Educated pet owners can have happier, healthier pets with fewer vet visits and a happier life at home. We are not merely talking about reducing bills and avoiding disasters. Caring for a pet correctly teaches children responsibility, empathy, and patience. This experience brings fundamental lessons for families with kids. It fosters a home environment where respect for living beings becomes vital to learning. The benefits of owning a family dog, in particular, are numerous.

A well-behaved pet is also a valuable asset for the community since this it means less problems with neighbours and stress-free public outings. Thus, pet education is indispensable.

Finding the Perfect Match

But finding the ideal family pet isn’t just about having the physical space to care for a furry friend. It’s also about learning to integrate an animal into the family. As a pet owner, it’s not just about selecting the most adorable dog, for example. Knowing your furry friend’s breed characteristics is essential to ensure they lead their best life. After all, every pet deserves to be healthy and happy!

So, if you are considering adding a canine companion to your family, do your research. There are plenty of sites offering a wealth of information on various breeds, helping potential pet parents make informed decisions. Whether you want a four-legged buddy that will keep you company while running or just a slow-moving pet that can be content during quiet nights on the sofa, finding the best companion animals is the key to beginning a beautiful pet-human relationship.

Whilst doing your research, you will find that some breeds are easier to train than others, so consider how much time you have and are willing to invest. A mini Cavapoo is highly intelligent, easy to train, and won’t destroy your house whilst you are out. A Siberian Husky, on the other hand, may be a good family dog but not the best pet for first time owners or those with young kids due to their independent nature and strong hunting instinct, which will require an experienced dog trainer. Equally, if you work all day or are travelling a lot for work or pleasure, a dog might not be the right pet.

Practical Tips for Pet Owners

The real adventure starts with pet owners finding their perfect match. Here are a few practical tips to help you navigate the early days of pet ownership and beyond:

Start training early: The sooner you train your pet, the better. Simple commands like “sit” or “stay” are foundational for a well-behaved companion.

Consistent routine: Pets thrive on routine. Try to keep their schedules for eating or playing consistent.

Proper nutrition: Invest in quality food that suits your pet’s age, size, and breed-specific needs. Consult your vet for recommendations or check a dog food advice site.

Socialisation: Expose your pet to different situations and people early on. This can help them become well-adjusted and less anxious.

Organise help: Make sure you have help should you need to leave your new pet home alone whilst at work or on holiday.

Regular vet visits: Check-ups can help catch issues early and keep your pet healthy, so find a vet as soon as possible.

Love and patience: Offer plenty of love and patience as they settle in. Don’t forget that adapting to a new home can be as challenging for pets as for humans.

Conclusion

Pet education is essential no matter what. It’s about forming an unbreakable connection that extends the animal’s life and improves its human family’s lives. Developing a good relationship requires knowledge and passion. Pet owners must be ready to take up this challenge.

Whether you have been a pet parent for a while or are just getting ready to open your heart to a new family member, pet education is the tool that will help you discover the relationship’s full potential.

There’s nothing quite like having a furry companion in life, whatever age you happen to be. Pooches keep their owners healthy and happy and are great company for both adults and children. There are endless benefits of owning a family dog, yet those who have experienced the joy of having a canine as a companion will also know the difficulties of having to let go and say goodbye. Nobody likes to think of their dog’s years as finite, however, the reality is that we usually outlive our furry friends. So, here are our top tips to help your dog live a longer and healthier life:

1. Avoid Overfeeding Your Dog

One of the best tips that you can take on board to help your dog live a longer life is not overfeed it. Find out how much food your furry friend needs, considering its breed, age, size, and level of physical activity. After all, you wouldn’t feed the same amount to your toddler that you give to your teen. So find out how to care for a large dog breed versus a little one. Get them on a healthy meal plan appropriate to their size, weight, and activity level, and avoid those excess treats.

2. Keep Your Dog’s Body and Mind Active

If you teach your dog to keep both its body and mind active, it will take longer to show serious signs of ageing. Just like humans, dogs need to get into a routine to feel the benefits of exercise. Try to take them for a walk every day or at least get them out in the fresh air as much as you can. Walking, running, and playing are great ways to keep dogs healthy and happy.

If you don’t have enough time to incorporate a daily walk, there are plenty of other ways to stimulate and exercise your dog. You can set up an agility course indoors or in your garden or get toys that will keep your pet physically and mentally active, such as food dispensing puzzle toys. Dogs also love playing fetch, tug of war, learning new tricks, and games of hide and seek. You can also rotate their toys as you would with young children to keep them interested.

3. Provide Nutritious Meals

The famous saying “you are what you eat” is also true for our canine companions. If you feed your dog the same meal every day, they will get bored and receive a limited amount of nutrition. Give them a rotational diet involving a variety of foods, including meats, fish, and different vegetables, such as healthy dog food with turkey, which provides them with both meat and plant proteins.

A balanced diet is important for healthy teeth and bones. It also helps to build and repair muscle and building a strong immune system. So, nutritious meals will give your dog a better quality of life and reduce the risk of potential illnesses giving them the chance to live longer. In contrast, a diet full of processed foods and additives can seriously decrease your pet’s lifespan.

4. Avoid Stress

Chronic stress can have a detrimental effect on our health, and the same is true for dogs. Canines suffering from fear and anxiety often have an impacted immune system making them susceptible to catching infections. Stress can also make us more prone to suffering strokes and heart attacks. It is therefore important to keep your dog’s stress levels down.

This can be done through providing a secure and stable home with an established routine and lots of positive reinforcement. Dogs, just like children, benefit from a daily structure around their mealtimes, play, exercise, and rest. In addition, rewarding positive behaviour through treats, praise, and petting, or a favourite activity makes them feel loved and secure.

To avoid separation anxiety, it is important not to leave your pup home alone for more than a few hours, especially when they are young. If you must go to work, find a neighbour, or dog walker, who can keep your furry friend company at some point during the day. When you go on holiday, try to take your dog along rather than leaving him at an expensive kennel where it will grieve your absence and, worst case, become depressed. Get them a pet passport, and take them on your solo activity holidays, weekends away, etc. They will enjoy a holiday much more than being stuck in a kennel, even if it involves a car ride or flight.

5. Keep your Canine Out of Harm’s Way

If you want your pet to stay out of harm’s way, you should be aware of your surroundings and how your dog may react in certain situations. For example, if you know they can get confrontational with other canines, make sure they are not left off the leash in potentially harmful situations. Also, never let them off the leash near traffic. Even a well-trained pooch could run across the road causing serious injury to himself and others.

Depending on your dog’s age and breed, you might also want to avoid walking them in very hot or very cold weather. Young puppies especially should not walk in all weathers and only once fully vaccinated. Older or smaller pooches and short hair breeds may also feel the cold more and might need a coat to protect them from frostbite and hypothermia. Hot weather, on the other hand, can lead to heat stroke or burning of the paws on hot pavements.

If your dog loves scavenging when you take him out for walks, you could buy a muzzle to stop him eating everything it sees on the way. This will avoid harmful items getting into their digestive system and making your pooch sick. Alternatively, you could train your dog to drop the item if you need a long-term solution. But even your home could contain harmful substances, that could make your dog very sick. So, keep any poisonous substances out of your pet’s reach to avoid dire consequences.

6. Stay On Top of Your Dog’s Dental Health

Dental health is just as important as physical health if you want to ensure your dog lives longer, however, many pet owners often overlook this vital aspect. Caring for your dog’s teeth prevents dental disease, which is very common in canines and can also be very painful. To avoid expensive trips to the vet, dog tooth health is vital: Brush your canine’s teeth regularly and from an early age using special toothpaste for dogs. Providing dental chews and feeding a diet that prevents plaque and tartar build-up is also vital. Depending on the condition of your furry friend’s teeth, you may need to visit the vet to have your dog’s teeth professionally cleaned once or twice a year.

7. Visit Your Vet Regularly

Finally, don’t hesitate to take your canine companion for regular visits to the vet. Prevention is key if you want your dog to live longer, so make sure your furry friend’s vaccinations are up to date and that it has regular health checks. The earlier an ailment is spotted, the better as it will require less treatment and improve your dog’s chances of a longer life. As your pooch can’t tell you when it’s not well and will often hide its pain or discomfort, a visit to the vet will give you peace of mind if nothing else.

Consider getting pet insurance if you are worried about the financial aspect of visiting your vet. The larger your breed, the larger the bills will be, but even small canines can become very sick, so don’t let vet bills prevent you from seeking advice for your dog.

Many dog owners are perfectly happy to spend hundreds of pounds on their beloved pets. Yet this money is often spent on toys and treats, rather than sensible items, such as good quality pet food or visits to the vet that may extend your dog’s life.
