Obertauern, in the southeast of the Salzburg region, is a popular summer destination for anyone who loves the outdoor life and an ideal base for a single parent activity holiday. You’ll be blown away by the unspoilt beauty of the entire region – the majestic Tauern mountain range, crystal-clear rivers and mountain springs, endless meadows and fields dotted with unhurried cows and horses. And thanks to the altitude, there are no allergies or mosquitoes to battle with!

Our superior 4-star Hotel Steiner, family-run and located at the centre of Obertauern, is simply paradise for single mums and single dads and children of all ages. Thereʼs a large playground at the hotel to keep the little ones entertained, a chill out lounge for older children equipped with game consoles, table football, air hockey, a climbing wall and a large indoor pool to be enjoyed by all ages.

The kitchen is open all day, and offers an amazing all-inclusive culinary experience for all guests. An impressive spa with indoor pool, whirlpool, steam bath, saunas, quartz grotto, tepidarium and water beds offers every imaginable opportunity for guests to relax and take in panoramic views of the Tauern mountain range. Parents can either use the spa’s family zone with their children or enjoy a little pampering with a massage or beauty treatment while the kids are having fun, well looked after: a child minder and 60 m² playroom complete with trains, Lego, slides, table football and more will keep younger guests entertained (from the age of 3), allowing our parents to unwind over a glass of wine on the hotel’s sun terrace after an active day in the mountains.

Programme

Your SPoH host will organise and accompany our group on a fun- and action-packed family activity programme exclusively for our single parent families. There will be something on offer for all tastes and ages. Below are some examples of the activities we plan (please note the programme has not yet been finalised):

In addition to our exclusive single parent programme, the hotel offers daily kidsʼ activities and organised play in the kidsʼ room, family hikes for all hotel guests and weekly highlights for adults, such as fitness classes, yoga in the mountains and spa treatments. A wide range of additional activities, such as mountain biking, golf and climbing, can be organised upon request.

About Obertauern

Obertauern is a popular summer destination for lovers of the Alps and the outdoor life, located in the far southeast of the region of Salzburg, in the Radstädter Tauern mountains, with altitudes ranging from 1,630 to 2,526 m above sea level. Obertauern is made up of two districts, St. Johann/Pongau and Tamsweg. Consequently, the community is separated into two municipalities, Untertauern (Pongau) and Tweng (Lungau). The municipal boundary runs first at the altitude of the Radstädter Tauern pass and then through the centre of the village. The village itself is located high on the sunny side of the mountain, at 1,741 m.

Obertauern’s history dates back to the Celts (who inhabited the area from the 4th to 1st centuries B.C.), and the Romans, who used the Tauern Pass to reach Salzburg. The Radstädter Tauern were first mentioned in 1207.

Obertauern is a very popular holiday destination nowadays, especially with outdoor lovers and skiers, offering breathtaking scenery, some of the most beautiful mountain hikes in Europe and a range of fun Alpine activities to keep all ages entertained.

Return flights currently cost in the region of £ 200 per person depending on departure airport, airline and time of booking.

We are therefore pleased to announce that, at no extra cost to you, and in accordance with the “The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018” all passengers booking with Single Parents on Holiday Ltd. are fully insured for the initial deposit, and subsequently the balance of monies paid as detailed in your booking confirmation invoice. The policy will also include repatriation if required, arising from the cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of Single Parents on Holiday Ltd.
