The Peak District & Derbyshire

The Peak District, which forms the southern end of the Pennines, is an area of upland, much of which is above 300 m. Contrary to its name, it consists mostly of rounded hills rather than peaks and deep dales in the south, and high moorland plateaus in the north. The area is famous for its beautiful scenery, bustling market towns and pretty villages, historic houses, and family attractions. Within the Peak District you will find the UK’s first national park, with a mix of rolling green hills and rugged landscapes speckled with pretty stone villages, and stately homes making it a popular destination for outdoor lovers and families from the neighbouring counties, as well as holidaymakers from all over the UK.

The picturesque region has provided the backdrop for many popular TV series and movies, from Pride and Prejudice to The Other Boleyn Girl and so attracts fans from all over the world. Popular tourist spots are Bakewell, the birthplace of the Bakewell tart, the spa town of Buxton, Poole’s Cavern, Castleton Caves, Matlock Farm Park, Chatsworth House, and many more. Whether you are a nature lover, hiker, cyclist, or a family with kids, the Peak District has something for everyone to enjoy.

"James and I attended the Peak District holiday in August 2021. We arrived at the same time as another family, James asked the two boys to play football and they became firm friends! The farmhouse was amazing, each bedroom was beautifully decorated, clean and modern. There was a huge kitchen where we could all eat together. There was two living rooms, which was ideal when parents wanted quiet time away from the kids. But the best part was the well-equipped games room in a separate building where James and his new friends spent many happy hours having fun.
Our holiday coordinator organised some fun trips, which we did as a whole group, group meals in the farmhouse and a local pub. Being part of such a friendly, large group of families was such fun. James and I have seen some of the families since the holiday, we are delighted to have made good friends. This is one of our favourite holidays, I cannot recommend it enough. Very well organised and fun with like-minded people. We will be doing another SPOH again for sure, we might even do this one again next year- maybe see you there!! "

"My daughter and I had a lovely time at this converted farm. The children enjoyed playing in the game room and watching TV together. The adults hung out in the evenings either outside or in one of the reception rooms. We enjoyed the outings to the Heights of Abraham and to Chatsworth house. Will be returning if I can. Made some good friends that we will be seeing again. Ian , the host , looked after us well "
